Ranger College offer the following athletic programs: Basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, rodeo, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball. The Ranger College basketball teams have gained regional and national prominence in the National Junior College Athletic Association. Over the past few years Ranger College is not only successful in basketball but many other sports.


The Ranger College men’s basketball team is one of the premier small college basketball programs in the United States.  The Ranger College Rangers have advanced to the national playoffs twice under head coach Billy Gillispie.  Last year the Rangers advanced to the national championship game and finished the year as the second-best team in the nation.  The Rangers have earned the number one ranking for most of the 2019/20 season and are poised for another NJCAA championship run.

The Ranger College Lady Rangers have developed into one of Region V’s top women’s basketball programs over the past few seasons under head coach Bill Foy. The Lady Rangers have won 58 games over the last three seasons and advanced to the Region V tournament three consecutive seasons.


Under head coach Scott Norwood, Ranger consistently fields one of the more competitive teams in Region V. Among the RC alumni to have appeared at the MLB level are Ellis Burks (for whom the college’s baseball field is named), Donnie Moore, Jim Morris, Pedro Bourbon Jr. and Hector Ortiz. Ranger College also fields a competitive junior varsity baseball program.

Cross Country

Our men’s and women’s cross country/half marathon and distance track teams are known as National Competitors. Ranger College has been consistently in the top 5 for half marathon and top 20 for cross country out of all the NJCAA schools in the nation.


The RC women were ranked as high as No. 4 in the NJCAA rankings in 2019. Ranger College men’s golf team is ranked as the top small college golf program in the country and 6th at NJCAA national tournament in 2019.


The Ranger College rodeo program is among the nation’s best. Ranger College won the 2007 National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association men’s team championship in the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. In 2016, Ranger earned a College National Finals Rodeo championship.


Our women’s soccer team developed into one of the most feared programs in Region V over the past decade, and advanced to the district tournament in 2016. The Ranger College men’s soccer team is among the top teams in Region V, and went on a trip to the District tournament in Kansas in 2017.


The Ranger College Lady Rangers is one of the top softball teams in the Northern Texas Junior Athletic Conference. The team has won numerous conference championships. Several Lady Rangers transfered into the NCAA Division I universities in recent years.

Track and Field

The Ranger College women’s track and field team is one of the nation’s top distance-running programs. The team competes in events ranging from the 200-meter run to the grueling 10-kilometer. Ranger men’s team has been ranked among the top 15 small college teams in the U.S. for much of the last five years.


The Lady Rangers has won more than 50 matches and advanced to the NTJCAC tournament each season since 2016. The team recorded its most wins in a season in 2018, going 23-12.
